Sérgio Coelho – clarinet

A native of Portugal, Mr. Sérgio is an active international performer who has been collaborating with renowned orchestras such as The Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra (Canada), Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (New Zealand), Mainly Mozart Festival (San Diego), among others. Mr. Sérgio has been awarded prizes in national and international competitions including 1st prize of American Youth Symphony Concerto Competition (USA), semifinalist of the Jacques Lancelot International Clarinet Competition (Japan) and a 3rd prize in the 8th Saverio Mercadante International Clarinet Competition (Italy), among other. As a chamber musician, Mr. Sérgio often collaborates with players of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Opera, Metropolitan Opera and National Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Sérgio has been featured as an orchestra and chamber music performer in several festivals and music series in different countries and American cities. These include collaborations with Chamber Music Palisades, South Bay Chamber Music Society, Sunset ChamberFest, Harmus Festival in Oporto (Portugal), Festival Internacional de Música de Piantón (Spain), National Repertory Orchestra Festival, Mason Home Concert Series, the 61st Annual Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration, Ojai Music Festival, Mainly Mozart Festival and Camerata Pacifica.

Lead by his passion for teaching, Mr. Coelho has established a successful teaching record in several arts organizations, including the Colburn School of Music and Harmony Project.

Currently, Mr. Sérgio holds the principal clarinet chair of the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra and the Opera NEO Festival and is a teaching artist with the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles, and Young Musicians Foundation.
