Cody Halquist – french horn
Cody Halquist is a versatile horn player praised for his “keen listening and sensitivity,” and sounding “good.” Based in Williamsburg, Virginia, Cody is an active performer and educator, most recently having served as the Lecturer in Horn at the University of Virginia and Principal Horn of the Charlottesville Symphony from 2021-2025. He has performed across the state of Virginia with the Richmond Symphony, Williamsburg Symphony, Williamsburg Opera, Charlottesville Opera, Wintergreen Music Festival, and Virginia Symphony. Outside of Virginia, he has played with the New Haven Symphony, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Oak Hill Music Festival, and has even performed internationally in Germany and South Korea. In 2024 Cody joined British prog rock band Big Big Train for their US tour in Boston, MA; Buffalo, NY; and Cruise to the Edge from Miami, FL to Cozumel, MX, a gig which Cody describes as “pretty rad.”
Cody received his Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater & Dance where he was a student of Adam Unsworth. He earned both a Master of Music and Master of Musical Arts in Performance at the Yale School of Music studying under William Purvis. He has seven tattoos.
